The experimental nature of The Conversation one-shot comes from its composition process developed by writer Dan Wickline (Metal Hurlant, Digital Webbing Presents) with his artist, David Hedgecock (Universalis, Kameelman). Billed as a 48-page prestige format "a Cut and Paste comic", the art elements for The Conversation were drawn only once by Hedgecock and given to Wickline to assemble at his discretion. Therefore, as Wickline furthered his script about two old friends meeting for what turns out to be a much more than ordinary discussion, he could utilize digital manipulation to "build" each panel along the way, granting him as a writer unparalleled freedom.

Connie is sitting in the local bar when a quiet, almost nerdy looking man comes in and takes the stool next to her. He introduces himself as Mike, buys her a drink and strikes up a conversation. It seems Mike has the ability to open a portal to the future, but the portal has limitations: it only opens to exactly twelve hours into the future and it's a one-way portal.
